Scholarships

ESIL is excited to offer scholarships of up to $10,000 per year to eligible students! In addition to the ESIL scholarship described below, ESIL can connect students with other financial opportunities.  Reach out to an ESIL advisor to learn more!

ESIL scholarships are available to students:

  •  who are already enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) related program at CU Denver
  •  or who are interested in coming to CU Denver to enroll in an undergraduate STEM degree program
  •  or who are attending a tribal college or other tribal-serving institution and are enrolled in an undergraduate STEM degree program at that college or institution

In any of the categories above, students must co-enroll in the ESIL certificate program. If you are interested in an ESIL scholarship and/or have any questions about your eligibility, please contact an ESIL advisor anytime.

More information about eligibility and frequently asked questions can be found below.

What does the scholarship cover?  Scholarships cover documented financial need up to $10,000 per year and may be used for CU Denver’s tuition, fees, and additional expenses such as housing and transportation.

How do I figure out my financial need?  Financial need varies for each student and may affect what costs are covered by the scholarship. We encourage students to work independently or with an ESIL advisor to determine their cost of attendance.

Who is eligible to receive the scholarship?  Scholarships are available for undergraduate students majoring in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field with academic promise and financial need. ESIL scholarship recipients must be enrolled at least half time. Half-time enrollment requires at least six credit hours/semester in the fall and spring semesters and at least three credit hours/semester in the summer semester.

ESIL scholarship recipients need to be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, U.S. nationals per section 101(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or refugees per section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. While the scholarship application focuses on demonstrated commitments to Indigenous communities, all students are eligible to apply (tribal enrollment is not required).

How do students maintain the scholarship?  Yearly scholarship renewals require students to remain in good academic standing, to remain enrolled at least half-time, to meet with their ESIL advisor at least once per semester, and to provide a one-page personal reflection on their progress toward their academic and career goals. This narrative should address any successes and challenges the student faced that year.
