Carlos Vega Townhomes is located at 151 Walnut Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts just minutes away from public transportation, the Holyoke Public Library, and downtown. 

Carlos Vega Townhomes is an 18-unit property, providing housing for 18 farmworker families. At the request of the USDA, Way Finders developed the property in 1987 in partnership with Valley Housing Development Corporation. The property was financed and continues to be subsidized by USDA Rural Development.  The property consists of a mix of one, two, three, and four bedroom apartments.

Redeveloped in 2020 

In 2020 Way Finders in partnership with Valley Housing Development Corporation redeveloped Carlos Vega Townhomes with new bathrooms, kitchens, flooring, heating, roof, siding, and hot water systems with new plumbing. This redevelopment provides more access for tenants and their visitors by allowing 15 of the apartments to be visitable and 3 apartments of which are now fully handicap accessible. 

What is farmworker and agricultural housing?

Farmworker and agricultural housing means that all the apartments at Carlos Vega Townhomes are reserved for households who received a substantial portion of their income from farm labor and/or agriculture. This includes anyone that is directly involved in the planting, tending, growing, harvesting, washing, preparing, packaging, transporting, or direct selling of agricultural products including but not limited to, plants, fruits, vegetables, meats, milk, eggs, other dairy products, etc.

Eligible families living at Carlos Vega Townhomes will pay no more than 30% of their monthly income towards total housings costs. Households with family members who have retired from farm labor or agriculture or have been disabled due to work in the field are also eligible to apply.
