Tips for Using LinkedIn Learning

Using the search bar on the top of your LinkedIn Learning dashboard, you can search for videos by entering a course name, topic, or an author. After entering a term into the search bar, learners will be presented with an expansive list of search results that can be filtered according to parameters such as author, platform, or date of release to make a narrower field of search results.

You can search for courses by clicking the Browse the library button on your LinkedIn Learning dashboard. By clicking the Browse the library button, you can open a menu of subjects covered by LinkedIn Learning - including courses and videos. You can then select a subject and view a list of search results that include all courses, videos, and playlists related to a subject available on LinkedIn Learning.

If you are interested in videos from a specific author, visit the LinkedIn Learning Site Map, accessible from the Site Map link at the bottom of every LinkedIn Learning page. On the Site Map window, click All Authors to view a list of all LinkedIn Learning video authors. This list is arranged alphabetically; you may click a letter from the alphabetic list at the top of the All Authors list to jump to the list of authors corresponding to that letter. Clicking on the author's name will reveal all videos created by that author.

After selecting a course to view, you can search the course and the videos within the course by using the Search this course field located above the Table of Contents for a course. This is a quick and easy way to skip to segments of a video that address your search term.

LinkedIn Learning encourages learners to tailor their LinkedIn Learning experience to their interests by identifying their subject matter interests with the My interests list. With this list, you can select which subjects and software covered by LinkedIn Learning courses and videos are of most interest to you. Identifying subjects or software that is of interest in the My interests list will enable LinkedIn Learning to recommend courses and videos on the LinkedIn Learning homepage that are designed to appeal to the individual learner.

Every LinkedIn Learning video contains a transcript that documents every word spoken in a video. Transcripts are displayed in the Transcripts tab, which is typically placed to the right of the Table of Contents for a course. Transcripts can be searched using the Course Search field, or they may be used as a tool for reading along as a video plays. LinkedIn Learning makes reading along with transcripts easy by highlighting each sentence as it is spoken by the video author.

A number of LinkedIn Learning videos contain Exercise files. These files can complement your viewing experience by providing documents that allow you to follow along with the video instruction. If available, exercise files will be located above the video player in the center of the LinkedIn Learning window. Click Exercise files to download the files in a Zip file format and then extract the files to the desktop using an operating system-specific extraction tool.

LinkedIn Learning enables you to take notes while watching LinkedIn Learning videos by using the My notes feature. Click on the My notes tab below the video player and begin entering notes in the Start typing your notes... field. Notes are marked with the time code of the segment that was playing at the time the note was entered. All notes created during video playback are collected in the My notes tab of that video.

Each course topic contains a selection of curated playlists. Curated playlists have been developed by subject matter experts and contain some of the most popular, engaging, and useful videos on a given topic. Curated playlists may be viewed by visiting the Playlist center. The curated playlists found in the Playlist center are designed to move learners toward specific learning goals in ways that extend beyond the narrower focus of many LinkedIn Learning courses.

LinkedIn Learning provides users with two options for controlling the progress of a video tutorial: Click and drag the progress bar cursor forward or backward to scrub to a specific timecode in a video; or, click the ten-second rewind button to rewind a video by ten seconds. The ten-second rewind button is located next to the play button, below the progress bar in the video player. While scrubbing gives you the most control over your progress, the ten-second rewind is a great way to quickly skip back through a video in short intervals.

An easy way to save a video or a segment of a video on LinkedIn Learning for later viewing is to bookmark the video, or bookmark a timecode in a video. You can click the Bookmark icon next to the title of a video to bookmark a video, or click the Bookmark icon in the video player while a video is playing. Bookmarks can also be applied to full courses or chapters within a course by clicking the Bookmark icon next to the course or chapter title in the Table of Contents. Additionally, you can click the Bookmark timecode icon while a video is playing to bookmark a specific section of a video. All bookmarks are collected in the Bookmarks tab of the My courses section, where the title and description of bookmarks can be edited. Bookmarks can also be deleted in this section.

LinkedIn Learning allows you to create playlists composed of multiple videos. Playlists can be created by using the Playlist creation tool in the My courses section. Videos may be added to playlists in the Playlist tab of the My courses section by clicking Create new playlist. Playlists can be shared with other LinkedIn Learning users, or individuals without a LinkedIn Learning account via email, playlist URL, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.

As you complete courses in LinkedIn Learning, certificates of completion will be added to the learner's account. These certificates can be used as verification that a learner has viewed all videos in a course and may be saved as PDFs, printed, or shared via email, URL, Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.
