Call for Papers

The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Women and Gender Studies Program (WGS) welcomes submissions for the 2024 No Limits Student Research Conference.

The past few years have seen an extraordinary shift in our nation’s politics and culture, both positive and negative. The overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court, for example, has injected additional urgency into both scholarship and activism. There have been certain gains in LGBTQ+ rights, but we have also witnessed backlash from state and local governments. Both in the US and globally, women’s economic status and health declined during the COVID-19 crisis and has not rebounded. This year’s conference theme invites graduate and undergraduate students to explore the implications of these changes and challenges.

Not all presentations need to address the conference theme, though they should focus on issues of interest within women, gender, and sexuality studies. All disciplinary approaches (the sciences, social sciences, humanities, etc.) and perspectives (global, national, or local) are welcome! We also invite proposals for special sessions, roundtables, and workshops. Please contact the conference organizers for additional instructions (davidpeterso1@unomaha.edu)

What is the No Limits Conference? Who Can Participate?

No Limits is an interdisciplinary student conference on issues related to women, gender, and sexuality and is sponsored by the Women's and Gender Studies Programs at UNO, UNK, and UNL. It is held annually in early March, and it rotates between the 3 campuses at Lincoln, Kearney, and Omaha.

The conference began in 1993 with a group of dedicated students who wanted to create an unquestionably interdisciplinary conference able to accommodate both traditional and non-traditional topics and presentations. Since that time the conference has remained student-oriented, and open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates.

Over the decades, No Limits has hosted hundreds of presentations from students and community members involved in Women's and Gender Studies in numerous academic departments and community groups. Further, No Limits encourages creative presentations, including artwork, performances, and the reading of original work.

**Note: To begin your submission, all participants must create an account. This will allow you to access and update any necessary information until the submission deadline.
