A good-hearted Ohio couple who saw a delivery driver dumping packages on Black Friday retrieved them and spent hours hand-delivering them to their intended recipients.
Tristen Raisch and Zachary Arnwine told local media they grew suspicious when they saw a FedEx truck pulled over to the side of the road with its emergency lights on and the driver apparrently throwing things out of it.
“He had the door wide open and we were doing a little creep on him,” Raisch told WLWT5 with a smile.
By the time the couple turned around on Ohio State Route 123, the driver had already gone. “We pulled up where he was — and there were packages lying everywhere,” Arnwine told WKRC, calling it “horrible.”
The couple detailed how the deliveries included kitchenware — and even flowers.
“That broke my heart,” Raisch said, suggesting they could have even been “funeral flowers” — for all the delivery driver had known.
They debated calling police, but feared it would mean an even longer delay for the packages to finally reach their destinations.
“So we decided to take it upon [ourselves] and deliver” them, Arnwine said — adding they spent hours driving around suburban Dayton making sure the packages reached their waiting recipients.
“I called every number on each box and told them that I had their package — and I will deliver them to their house,” he told the local outlets, saying he “thought that was the right thing to do.”
“They were amazed,” Arnwine said of the recipients getting his deliveries, detailing how people “just kept thanking me so much.”
One of them, Royce Charbeneau, told WKRC he almost failed to take Arnwine’s call and initially “didn’t believe” the unexpected story.
“But then, after I met Zach and talked to him in person, I believed it,” he said, adding he was thrilled to get one of the two packages he was expecting, although the other is still missing.
While happy to help make deliveries, Arnwine said he hopes the driver is caught before he can dump more parcels “because that’s wrong for this time of year.”
Raisch said they would do the same again, “would want somebody else to do it” too.
FedEx confirmed to The Post on Tuesday the delivery giant was “reviewing this matter and will take the appropriate action.
“The security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority and this reported behavior is contrary to our commitment to treating millions of customers’ packages each day with the utmost care,” a spokesperson said.
