LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Little Rock Touchdown Club, in conjunction with the Great American Conference, announced the Harlon Hill voting results on Friday morning. With 142 points, which included 20 first-place votes, Notre Dame College running back
Jaleel McLaughlin finished as the award's runner up.
Slippery Rock quarterback Roland Rivers III earned top honors, which recognizes NCAA Division II's top player each year, with 199 points.
McLaughlin, who finished third in the voting last season, moved up to second in 2019 after an outstanding season where he led the NCAA in multiple categories.
In 2019, McLaughlin became the second player in NCAA Division II history to rush for 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons, and was the first to do so as a freshman and sophomore. He led the nation in rushing yards (2,316), rushing touchdowns (30) and points scored (198). His 2,526 all-purpose yards also led all DII players, as he is one of just two to surpass the 2,000-yard mark (Deonte Glover, Shepherd).
The NCAA Division II sports information directors voted for their top three candidates among the eight finalists.
The Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill - the former University of North Alabama standout - who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.
