College of Engineering and the Response to COVID-19
When the state of Florida’s public health response to the COVID-19 global pandemic required closing the the USF Tampa campus for spring and summer semesters, it created the need for the College of Engineering to teach students and conduct business almost entirely online.
Yogi Goswami’s USF-patented Molekule Air Pro RX Receives FDA 510(k) Class II Medical Device Clearance
The USF-patented technology uses photo electrochemical oxidation (PECO) to capture and destroy airborne pollutants. Third-party testing conducted at an air quality lab used MS2, a proxy virus for SARS-CoV-2, and found that the PECO technology demonstrated greater than 5-log, or 99.999 percent reduction within 24 hours.
Engineering Faculty Receive Funding from USF COVID-19 Rapid Response Research Grants Program
Of the 14 projects receiving initial funding from the University of South Florida COVID-19 Rapid Response Research Grants program, four are led by faculty from the College of Engineering. Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Jeffrey Cunningham has been awarded the 2020 Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Award for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Engineering & Science Education.
