Stewards VISTA: Preservation Maryland - Eastern Shore

The Campaign for Historic Trades addresses several national crises: the need for skilled labor, the lack of historic trades training, and educational equity. There is a growing gap in skilled construction labor, exacerbated by the pandemic. This lack of skilled workers is further magnified for the specialized traditional trades needed for historic preservation projects. Despite the growing stock of historic structures in the United States, there are no nationally recognized training standards. The Campaign for Historic Trades seeks to resolve these problems through apprenticeship development and registration. This would automatically create national training standards and decentralizes training programs to individual employers. To foster educational equity, The Campaign partners with accredited college programs to allow apprentices to earn degrees during their certification process. The Campaign is also developing open educational resources for individuals, programs, and schools to use.
