"Where's My Bench," an initiative of Empowering the Ages, is aimed at creating a map with the location of chairs and benches throughout the community.
The goal is to plot the locations of benches throughout Montgomery County as a resource for older adults and individuals who need frequent breaks when walking in their communities. This information will help individuals feel confident and capable to explore their neighborhoods.
We are looking for youth who are willing to explore their neighborhoods and send us the information on the location of the benches. We will provide an instruction sheet with the exact information and format in which the information needs to be sent to us.
We need benches located in many zipcodes around the County. To view the map and learn more - check out the Empowering the Ages webpage.
Students will receive 1 SSL hour for each 6 bench locations provided. Unfortunately, we are not able to email students at their MCPS e-mail addresses, so please provide alternative information.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home until schools resume normal status.
