Dear COVID Testing Participant,

We have been informed by COVIDCheck Colorado that test specimens collected this week (2/15 through today) continue to experience weather-related shipping delays due to the recent winter storms impacting a huge swath of the country. At this time, unfortunately we are unable to give an estimated time for this week’s test results to be delivered to our community members.

Should I get another test?

It’s up to you. We remain optimistic that your test from this week will get analyzed and you will receive a result in the next several days. You may want to obtain another test if you are concerned about the delay with your test result. Should you decide to retest, COVIDCheck Colorado recommends that you go to one of their testing sites that utilizes Saliva Direct (see list below) – these specimens are analyzed right here in Colorado, meaning we do not anticipate similar shipping delays. Saliva Direct test results are typically available about a day after collection. You can schedule an appointment via the same link you use to test on the Mines campus: https://www.primarybio.com/a/mines

If you are part of a regular surveillance testing program please continue testing at the Mines site even if you haven’t received your results from this week.

If you are an athlete awaiting test results, please reach out to Dixie Cirillo dcirillo@mines.edu for further instructions.

Students: If you are currently experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please reach out to the Student Health Center by calling 303-273-3381 between 8 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday. After hours, all Mines students have access to tele-health services through AHP Live Care.

Will the delay affect my results?

Samples collected are viable for one week after the date they are collected. As long as test samples reach the lab within that 7-day timeframe, a test can still be processed. COVIDCheck Colorado will void any tests if the shipping delay prevents it from reaching the lab in time. Should that happen, COVIDCheck Colorado will be in touch with anyone directly impacted.

Can I still come to campus while I wait for my results?

It depends. If you are still waiting for your results, DO NOT COME TO CAMPUS if:

  • You have symptoms of COVID-19 and/or
  • You have had known exposure to someone with COVID-19
  • You are currently under a quarantine directive

If this is your situation, please submit a report to CRIT who will advise you on next steps. Those currently in quarantine should wait to hear from CRIT.

Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this weather-related delay. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding testing not addressed above, please email covid19testing@mines.edu.
