With snow keeping our kids from school this week, some of the students in our community may not be getting the meals they need.
Christina Barzare, ME's wonderful Elementary Support Specialist, is also the Committee Chair and main volunteer for ME PTSA's Packs For Kids program. We asked her to share a few details about this important effort that we help to fund. "Hunger is on the rise," says Ms. Barzare. "The need for affordable, nutritious food remains a problem for many families. Last year, 33% of Snohomish County school children receive free and reduced breakfast and lunch at school. The Packs for Kids program is to provide a food supplement for children and families living in food-insecure households. Each Friday, students receive a bag filled of nonperishable food to support their families food needs through the weekend. No student at ME should go hungry." Your donation to the ME PTSA helps provide grant funding to this program. Packs For Kids is also always happy to receive donations of nutritious, shelf-stable food items like these pictured below. |
