A high-flying all-ages adventure, Jupiter Jet follows Jacky Johnson, a sixteen-year-old girl who discovers an experimental jetpack in her late father’s workshop. With her brother Chuck, Jacky takes to the skies to keep her neighborhood safe.

Jupiter Jet is an all-ages comic book series with art by Ben Matsuya (Midnight Massacre, Cryowulf) and written by DC All-Access’ Jason Inman and Top Cow Editor Ashley Victoria Robinson and published by Action Lab Entertainment. After a monthly run, Jupiter Jet was collected into a trade paperback. We’re excited that this labor of love is now available for purchase as a digital comic and by graphic novel. A sequel, Jupiter Jet and the Forgotten Radio, made its appearance in December 2020 to soaring reviews!

Ben Matsuya drew this young Clark Kent comic as a textless portfolio piece for 2018’s Comic-Con.


Superman has long been an influential character for the Matsuya Brothers. This piece is meant to evoke the awkward experience of high school as a young Superman undergoes superhuman changes in his body. His Smallville story parallels that with the discovery of one's own talents, strengths, and independence as we go from child to teenager to adult.  The lines and facial expressions that Ben commits to each panel provides you with a sense of what you can expect with his style and storytelling. Even though Clark Kent is destined to become the world's greatest hero, he is all too human, and we can relate to his experiences of growing up.

A Clark Kent Comic: A Teenage Superman Story

An annual Matsuya brothers tradition - just as important as Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas Day Movie releases, and New Years Countdowns - is debating and choosing our favorite films of the year. At the end of 2017, Ben and I turned some of our favorite movies into one page comic panels with our Five For Five Comics. We were hoping to share some of our picks in a unique way, get traffic to our friends over at Indiewire, and form a case study for an art-centric content campaign. We were fairly confident about Five for Five as a concept, but we didn't anticipate just the level of enthusiasm we generated across different websites. 

We were profiled and interviewed by journalists at slashfilm, nerdist, i09, and Trunkspace, all asking us why we selected these movies and what they meant to us. After some reflection - we collected our reasoning behind picking Get Out, The Shape of Water, Okja, Good Time, and The Florida Project and published it here. We also delve into how we designed the artwork for each of the comic panels and detailed our thought process behind choosing the shots, colors, and angles. We returned again in 2018 with another 5 for 5, collecting films like Black Panther, The Favourite, You Were Never Really Here, First Reformed, and Eighth Grade.
