Blue and White Tea Party for Mom
get blue and white table setting ideas for a pretty Mother’s Day celebration.
Mother’s Day is the perfect time to celebrate with the special women in your life. The women who have encouraged who you are and have become, those who you call first when something good or bad happens. Sometimes it’s a fancy and frilly affair with hats and gloves and flowery everything. But for some of us, we just want to celebrate in our favorite t-shirt and jeans, enjoying a pretty day with good conversation. If this sounds more your style, then this Blue and White Tea Party for Mom will be just what you need!
This Blue and White Tea Party for Mom is inspired by Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home, who is hosting this beautiful blog hop. If you’ve come over from The Crowned Goat, I’m sure you enjoyed CoCo’s Moss Covered Urn; so cool! I hope you have a chance to check out all the rest of the beautiful pics and inspiration down at the bottom. I can’t wait to see them all!
Maybe some love dressing up in pretty dresses and finery to enjoy their Mother’s Day, but this vintage-junk loving girl relishes a day in a white T-shirt and jeans. Comfortable blue and white, surrounded by nature, chatting with my daughter about her college adventures is what I pictured for my Mom’s Day, and that’s what I created here.
In the past, I’ve created pretty outdoor celebrations with green depression ware and my pink vintage dishware {“Green Depression and a Little Junk for a Garden Party“, “A Pink Depression and Peonies Patio Party“}; I wanted this party to be set with some new-to-me vintage blue bubbleware.
Shop the Thrift Store for Reasonably-Priced Dishware
To set this denim blue and white setting, I shopped the thrift store, intent on adding a few more pieces to round out the table. I picked up a cute silver teapot, a pretty ironstone floral container and a few small bowls and plates. Thrift stores are a great resource to cheaply add what you need to a theme! {“3 Things to Look for at the Thrift Store”}
Choose a Relaxing, Outdoor Setting
This Blue and White Tea Party for Mom is placed near a cozy fire, since we’ve had a chilly spring. It’s close enough to the house to easily carry out all the items, yet far enough away to feel like a destination. The buds have just popped on the trees, so we have a pretty view of our ravine, gurgling with springtime rain.
Keep the Menu Simple and Easy
Difficult recipes don’t fit this casual, comfortable setting. Yummy Blueberry Muffins, fruit and cheese is all that’s needed, along with a variety of teas to choose from. Just enough to nibble on while enjoying the satisfying conversation!
Our “Repurposed Wood Lath Runner” is the perfect trivet for the hot silver teapot. You can find the full tutorial in my Insider’s Library. By becoming a Lora B Insider (below), you’ll get access to all my FREE helpful and decorative resources. I’d love if you’d join the group!
Add Soft Linens for a Comfortable Setting
For classic and comfy true blue style, the table is covered with a vintage linen cloth. No ironing here…this is an un-fussy party! Vintage tea towels serve as napkins, tucked into blue jeans pockets. Alongside the fork is a little handwritten note for the special someone to affirm your love for her. I created some mini frames to print off that you can write your note on. I’ve used these as placecards, too. They’re just fun little frames to use however you want! You can grab them in the Member’s Only Resource Library.

Simple Garden Flowers for a Pretty Centerpiece
Rather than buying tulips at the store, I picked some of the earliest foliage growing in our yard. Fiddlehead ferns and other shrub and tree green foliage provide an un-fussy and natural focal point for the table setting. A purchased fern placemat spreads the green to the table surface also. The green looks so beautiful in the sea of denim blue and white.
Of course you need a little dish to place those tea bags when you’re done. Isn’t this little vintage teapot dish perfect? It’s from a dear aunt, which makes it more special. Combining family pieces with thrift store finds, alongside re-purposed creations and garden-fresh clippings makes for a beautiful, relaxing setting! Perfect for the t-shirt and jeans-loving mommas out there!
Whether it’s in the morning for brunch, or at twilight like this setting, I hope you can enjoy your Mother’s Day in whatever fashion makes you feel the most loved! I’ll be in my white t-shirt and jeans, chatting with my mom or daughter at this “Blue and White Tea Party for Mom” tranquil setting:)

There are so many sweet details that I know I’ll forget to mention them all. So I’ll just say that you had me at blue and white.
I know blue and white is your comfort zone, too, Carol! Thanks!
Blue and white is one of my favorite color combinations, Lora! It always feels so warm and relaxed and your outdoor tea party setting is no exception. I’m all for being comfortable so I can completely appreciate the vintage napkins in the jean pocket. And don’t even get me started on the beautiful lid in the muffin basket – gah – you are THE BEST at those little details! Hugs and Happy Mother’s Day, CoCo
I love how you and Cindy notice all those little details, CoCo! I know I’m in good company with this hop group;) Thanks for your kind words!
Tea in the garden, how perfect. I adore your beautiful table setting and the denim cloth is fabulous. Those muffins are really calling my name, they look so good.
Thanks, Marty! I have been enjoying them thoroughly;)
I’m definitely a low-key Mother’s Day kind of mom, and what you have planned would work for me! I like it when things are kept simple and casual. Your table setting is really pretty, and WOW, that fiddlehead fern in the china – I LOVE that!!
I think it’s the first time I’ve used the fiddleheads like that…and think I’ll do it again! I’m loving that little ironstone tureen with the blue rose too; it just had to come home with me!Thx, Sheila!
Lora, I love the idea of creating a little destination for your tea party with the trees in the background. So picturesque! Great idea using the fiddlehead fern for a centerpiece. That lush green is so pretty with your blue and white tablescape.
Fresh green just adds so much to the blue and white, doesn’t it? Especially when the sunbeams are shining so nicely;)
Lora, I love your blue and white tea party. It’s such a lovely setting! Happy to be joining you for the tea party tour this week! Blessings, Cecilia @My Thrift Store Addiction
Thanks, Cecilia! Can you believe I actually had to go out and buy a few dishes for this one? Who knew I didn’t really have any blue and white!
You know I don’t have much in the way of blue and white either!
Thanks for sharing your lovely Mother’s Day tea party at Vintage Charm!
I have a couple more dishes now…but who’s counting, right?
What an adorable idea to use the jean pocket! Blue and white is always my favorite color combination and I just loved how you used it on your beautiful table!
Shelley
Gorgeous setting, Lora, love the denim pockets for the napkin and silverware, so adorable! That tureen filled with the fern is just amazing!
Thanks, Debra! Yes, that tureen just called my name when I saw it on the thrift store shelf;) I held myself back from the matching teapot!
What a beautiful table you set, Lora! My favorite thing is your centerpiece. I love how you used fiddleheads for this! I’ve never seen them used in a floral arrangement and they look beautiful. Your dishes are also pretty and your jean pocket holder for the silverware and note is a charming idea. I loved admiring every single picture in this post.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Paula! I used the fiddleheads out of necessity, since I didn’t want to make a trip to the store. And there’s really not much else yet even green in my yard; way late spring here:(
Thank you just my kind of tea party. Pretty and relaxing, just visiting with people you care about.
Yes, Marlene…quiet and relaxing is my favorite!
So cute. I love the denim pockets upcycled. Adorable. Your tablescape for tea is beautiful.
Thanks, Katie! My son just said a pair of his jeans were too small, so of course I needed to cut them up;)
Lora B! You are my new favorite blogger. I always get fun inspo from you. Something as simple as putting the blue and white lid in the basket of delicious looking muffins is adorable. Can we be besties? I wanna be besties.
I am honored, Cindy! I’d love to be besties with you! I think the lid in the basket was an idea that came from way too many years of devouring Victoria magazine pics! Ideas are kind of a disease for me…they just keep growing!
Lora what a beautiful tablesetting. I love the jean pocket! What a great idea to use as a napkin, card and silverware holder. Awesome inspiration. Hope you have an awesome Mother’s Day!
Thanks, Terrie! It was a fun scene to create;)
What a beautiful tea party. Blue and white is such a classic pairing. The jean pocket napkin holder is truly darling.
Thanks, Laura! I don’t usually do much classic blue and white, but it just felt comforting this time:)
