State police say an Emporium man is facing multiple felonies after authorities say he attempted to steal a vehicle and then a helicopter from the Emporium barracks.

Troopers say on Thursday morning, authorities were dispatched to the barracks for a report that a man, identified as 39-year-old Michael Roberto, was attempting to steal a pickup truck from the parking.

Investigators say Roberto had left the barracks prior to troopers arriving on scene.

Police say at the same time, a helicopter was landing at the barracks, and troopers say they then witnessed Roberto "sprinting" towards the aircraft.

Authorities say Roberto attempted to access the cockpit of the helicopter but was kept away by the pilot, whom police say had to "hold the doors shut" to prevent Roberto from getting inside.

Police say Roberto was taken into custody with drug paraphernalia found on his person.

Troopers also noted that Roberto appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Roberto is being housed at the Potter County Jail, on $50,000 bail, court dockets show.

He faces felony charges of attempted theft and risking catastrophe, as well as reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 16.
