Ways to get your animal tested for CWD

There are four ways to get your animal sampled for CWD, and the process takes just minutes.

Roadside check stations

Check stations will be set up for the opening weekend of ALW (rifle) Rocky Mtn elk season NOVEMBER 4-6.‌

Field and district offices

Call an ODFW office in advance to make an appointment as biologists are often in the field. An ODFW biologist will collect a portion of the brainstem or lymph nodes for CWD testing. Keep your deer/elk head cool prior to sampling if possible. Many offices will have collection barrels outside so hunters can submit a head after hours. If dropping a head off after hours:

  1. Remove antlers if you want to keep them.
  2. Put head in plastic bag.
  3. Write down your name, ODFW ID number, hunt unit and harvest date.
  4. Attach information to outside of bag.
