Office of Charter Schools25-301The Office of Charter Schools intern will work on projects directly impacting the 200+ NC charter schools. The intern will primarily work with OCS on short-term projects that span across various areas of the charter landscape, such as policy, authorizing, best practices, and innovation. Additionally, the intern would be expected conduct research related to charter school issues as necessary. - Open to any post-secondary degree level

Office of Digital Teaching and Learning30-352Interns within the Office of Digital Teaching and Learning (DTL) will analyze qualitative programming data and provide support for summer programming, such as the NCBOLD educator conference. Responsibilities may include data analytics, conducting participant interviews, writing reports, and coordinating with vendors, schools, as well as educators ascross the state. Interns can also expect some project management responsibility, assisting staff in establishing goals and setting up projects for the upcoming year.- Open to any post-secondary degree level

Office of the Government Affairs30-351The Office of Government Affairs intern will assist the Government Affairs team during the 2024 legislative short session. This intern would be expected to conduct research for issues and policies pertaining to the State Superintendent, State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and public education.- Current undergraduate or masters students

NC Healthy Schools (Office of Academic Standards)20-251This internship will focus on improving student health and wellness. Interns will contribute to initiatives through coordination, implementation, data collection, and policy reviews of health-focused programs. The intern will be expected to analyze as well as utilize data on student health and engage various stakeholders. Intern would acquire knowledge on the Whole School, Whole Community, and the Whole Child framework, using this knowledge to build recommendation profiles. - Current masters or advanced degree students
- Preferred background, experience, degrees in Education, Data Analytics, Public Policy, Public Health, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
- Ability to work hybrid and in-person occasionally

Center for Safer Schools35+1The primary goal for the CFSS Intern would be to support the center in a project relating to best practices for school discipline. Interns would be required to gather data and write reports that explain various discipline policies/models at federal and state levels.- Current masters or advanced degree students

Office of Learning Recovery and Acceleration25-301The OLR intern will have hands-on experience planning and organizing a large-scale convening and professional development for district and charter school leaders from across the state. The intern will engage with program leaders within districts and schools to highlight promising practices funded through ESSER. The intern will gain experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders, designing visually-appealing products to pique district and school leader interest in professional development, and writing briefs about promising practices across the state.- Current undergraduate or masters students

Office of Research and Evaluation20-352Interns in the Office of Research and Evaluation will support the design and implementation of research projects with the Department of Public Instruction as well as public school units, interact with internal and external stakeholders, support studies evaluating the effectiveness of learning recovery programs and policies, and formulate research reports. The office partners with PSUs and other stakeholders to bring needed solutions to long-standing challenges facing NC public education.- Current masters or advanced degree students

NC Virtual Public School20-251The NCVPS operations and organizational leadership intern will contribute to the work in support of educators and student at NCVPS and across the state. They can expect 1-on-1 guidance from NCVPS staff while conducing research projects and hands-on tasks, identifying and analyzing data trends and forecasting. *Note: This opportunity is 5 weeks in duration, between mid-June and early August. Dates flexible, in consultation with the hiring supervisor.- Current masters or advanced degree students
- Preferred background, experience, pursuing degrees in Public Administration, Education, Business Management or related fields.
- Remote work is required. In-person opportunities are limited or cannot be considered for this role.

Office of Operations20-251The agency operations intern will support the work of the business operations team, including 1-on-1 work with the Director of Operations to achieve strategic improvements in business processes across the agency. This opportunity will allow the intern to learn about the inner workings of a state agency through hands-on experience and real-time problem solving. - Open to any post-secondary degree level
- Preferred background, experience, degrees in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Communication, or similar fiields.

Office of Advanced Learning & Gifted Education35+1The ALGE intern will have support the various programs in a variety of way. Some projects may include: policy revisions and organization, development of program archives, on-site support at the NC Governor’s School, and research support. This intern will work 1:1 with the Director as well as other program leaders.- Open to any undergraduate or graduate student.
- Preferred background, experience or interest in public administration, communication, education, or gifted education.
