The Washington Department of Transportation is looking for its next generation of maintenance workers.

Graduating seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply to their “High school to Highways” program, launched last year to fill open jobs and offer young adults and early career start.

Unlike an internship, those enrolled in the program will be full-fledged employees, receiving hands-on experience, a pension, benefits and a commercial drivers license for their work on our states highways.

WSDOT says the job is more than just running large equipment, but it’s also a community service.

“There's a direct connection with the community that we serve,” said Dave McCormick, of WSDOT Northwest. “You get a lot of personal value working here because of the impact to the community."

Applicants must be between the ages 18 to 22, and have a valid driver's license. For a link to the application, click here.
