Free, Local Tax Assistance
January 2024: The Beaufort County Library is pleased to continue the long-standing tradition of hosting free tax preparation assistance to Beaufort County citizens provided by Lowcountry Area VITA and AARP Tax-Aide Foundation.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
In collaboration with the Beaufort County Human Services Alliance, and United Way of the Lowcountry, Inc., the Lowcountry Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers FREE tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns in Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, and Bamberg counties, including:

Individuals who generally make $63,398; or less

Individuals with disabilities

Non-English speaking taxpayers

Those who are 60 years of age and older, specializing in questions about pensions and retirement-related issues unique to seniors​
