Thanks for watching!

The event is past, but there’s much more coming up!

Also, we experienced some as-yet-unexplained cut-outs during the show. Fortunately, this was not from the production side, so we have the full show archived. The glitches took place between our outputs and the inputs to the various sites that hosted the show (live.bangonacan.org, youtube, facebook etc.)

Below is the whole show without glitches or cut-outs! We’ll leave it up thru the Ides of March.

Bang on a Can Marathon
February 21, 2021
1-5PM EST

New Year! New Hope! New Commissions! On February 21, Bang on a Can presents an entire marathon of PREMIERES! 16 brand new works by 16 pioneering composers. Tune in to hear 4 hours of nonconformist, noncommercial, mind-blowing music. Alvin Lucier!  Jennifer Walshe! Matthew Shipp! Ingrid Laubrock! Gabriel Kahane! and many many more.

Big thanks to John Schaefer and Caryn Havlik for helping us present the big show today. Their New Sounds program on WNYC continues to help make NYC the world’s home to challenging and exciting new music. Thanks to you both and your whole team.

This concert is FREE!  But please do consider purchasing a ticket. That helps us pay more players, commission more composers, and make more music. The pandemic is still here. An entire ecosystem of composers and performers needs our attention, our love, and our financial support. All Marathon performers and composers are participating live and being paid by Bang on a Can. Please help us do that!

Tickets

Suggested Ticket Levels

$10

A big virtual hug and thank you for helping make this and future virtual Marathons possible.

$25

We’d love to list you! For $25 or more, we’ll put your name on the Marathon 2020 website as Ticket Buyer. It’s that easy. Buy a ticket, be a supporter.

$100 and above

Receive the above and reserved seating! Okay, that’s silly. You can sit wherever you want. BUT $100 and above makes you a donor, not just a ticket buyer, and you can get a tax deduction and name on the Marathon website as a PRODUCER! Because you helped us produce the show, and that’s really, really important.

$1,500 – Commissions!

This is a very special category indeed. We are going to try to commission as many pieces as we can over the next few months, before we can all settle into a venue together to hear music together. So…for each $1,500 gift, we will apply the funds in equal parts to the composer, to the performer and to the Marathon 2020 fund that keeps this all going. If you want to know more about these commissions, just send an email to Tim Thomas, [email protected]. Or, when you give $1,500, we’ll contact YOU with info on your composer and when the piece will be premiered. You will also receive a signed score from the composer and our undying gratitude.

This performance is a continuation of Bang on a Can’s online offerings during the pandemic shutdown. Bang on a Can has presented over 90 performances including 31 newly commissioned world premieres and dozens of composers and performers. The Marathons feature interviews with the composers in between each performance, offering insights into their music, work, and life during this time.
