Lisa D. Pearce is Zachary Taylor Smith Distinguished Term Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is also a Faculty Fellow at the Carolina Population Center. Her research examines how religions and families shape ideas and actions in youth and through the transition to adulthood–in the U.S. and Nepal. She is currently conducting a project on how family relationships shape health during pregnancy. She is also exploring social constructions of race and racism in U.S. megachurch services following the murder of George Floyd through the analysis of video recordings. Pearce’s work often integrates the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and she writes and teaches about mixed methods research.
