08.22.22 — Amber Kolb ’23 has taken first place in the 2022 Howard C. Schwab Memorial Essay Contest. This highly competitive award is sponsored by the American Bar Association Section of Family Law to promote interest and scholarship in family law. Kolb’s essay, “Influencing a New Generation: Guardians’ Duties To Protect The Interests and Safety of Children on Social Media,” was assessed by a panel of five judges on the basis of originality, quality of analysis, quality of research, style and organization, and practicality and timeliness of subject matter. The essay has been submitted to the ABA Section of Family Law’s Family Law Quarterly for consideration for publication.
“I am so thankful for this award,” said Kolb, who serves as a senior editor for the Northeastern University Law Review. “I hope my essay will contribute to the conversation about the intersection of children's privacy rights, labor protections and family law. I want to say a huge thank you to the American Bar Association’s Section of Family Law for this award, and thank you to Professor Bruce Hale for all of his support.”
At Northeastern, Kolb has completed co-ops as a legal intern for the United States Attorney's Office (Massachusetts District) and as a summer associate in the M&A group at Foley & Lardner, an AmLaw 50 firm. She is currently interning with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts in Boston. She has served as a lawyering fellow for the Legal Skills in Social Context (LSSC) program and as an executive board member for Northeastern's Asian Pacific American Law Students Association.
