Cases of the novel coronavirus have begun to mount in the United States and are expected to continue to grow in the coming weeks as the virus spreads and testing increases.

In California, at least 40 cases have been reported as of Sunday March 1. Twenty-four cases were people who caught the virus either on the Diamond Princess cruise ship or in Wuhan, China, where the outbreak was first reported, and were then repatriated to the U.S. and quarantined at California military bases. An additional 16 cases were in returning travelers or, in at least five instances, people who contracted the virus in their community.
