Expanding Consumer Purchasing Options

One way to remain connected to your customer base and maintain sales (and cash flow) is by expanding consumer purchasing options. As you make changes to your operation, be sure to add or update a listing Kentucky Produce and Plant Directory to help customers find you (Submit your operation’s details).

A few ideas:

Online orders. Having the ability to take online orders may help minimize cash flow disruptions.

Delivery services and On-site pickup. “Curbside pickup” is a great customer service strategy. Be sure to train any employees on proper handling procedures and minimizing contact with patrons and consider traffic flow and possible work disruptions

Gift cards. Encourage customers to purchase gift cards for friends and family or to use later. KCARD has published a great article on offering gift cards.

Consider promotions. This strategy may help incentivize customers who may be reluctant to visit your business.

Tell your story. Engage with current customers and reach potential new customers online or using social media. Use short video clips or images to give customers a peek at what is happening now: seeding, transplanting, pruning and other production activities are fascinating activities to customers.

Provide suggestions of how to use your products. Maybe this is a recipe (you can remind folks that there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is transmitted via food and if they are concerned, the virus should be killed by normal cooking temperatures). Or, a colorful pot planted with a pleasing combination of annual.
