Reports: Lori Vallow Daybell faces more charges after remains of JJ, Tylee found

(KUTV) — Lori Vallow Daybell is facing more charges after the remains of her two missing children were discovered on her husband's property earlier this month.

East Idaho News reported Monday that "multiple sources" confirmed additional charges were filed against the 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan's mother late on Monday, but information was not immediately available from state court websites due to the lateness of their filing.

According to Nate Eaton, two charges of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence were filed against Vallow Daybell.

The Seventh Judicial Court in Idaho confirmed in an email on Tuesday that additional charges had been filed, and Vallow Daybell is scheduled to appear in court at 4:30 p.m.

Court documents Vallow Daybell reportedly lied to police about her children's whereabouts.

Vallow Daybell allegedly asked her friend Melanie Gibb to lie about her son's whereabouts, asked her to create false evidence of Vallow's location and told Rexburg police Vallow was in Arizona with Gibb. She also told police Ryan was attending BYU-Idaho and failed to produce the children to Idaho authorities as required by a court order back in February, court documents state.

Police say they have video evidence of Vallow Daybell lying to them.

The documents allege Vallow Daybell did not act alone, but that she, her brother, Alex Cox, who died in December, and her husband, Chad Daybell, "conspired to commit the crime of concealing" evidence.

Gibb told police that the couple believed it was their mission to "rid the world of zombies."

After the death of Daybell's first wife Tammy in October 2019, "Gibb was informed by Vallow that when a person became a 'zombie,' their original spirit left their body and entered 'limbo' and is trapped and cannot progress to 'paradise.'" Vallow Daybell told her friend that the only way for the spirit in limbo to be free, the person's physical body had to die, court documents state.

"Gibb reports she was never told by Vallow or Daybell that they planned to carry out a physical killing themselves," according to the documents.

Daybell was arrested in early June after investigators found the children's remains on his property. His home was searched again by authorities on Monday.

Daybell's preliminary hearing is set for July 1 after he entered a not guilty plea on two felony counts of destruction of evidence.

Vallow Daybell is also being held in the Madison County Jail. Her preliminary hearing is set for July 9.
