Author Guidelines

A central aim of Aquila (Online ISSN: 2572-6021) is to introduce students to the revision and publication process. Students will receive mentorship all along the way, from preparing their work for submission, to incorporating reviewer comments, to final edits before publication. We want you to take your critical thinking and written/creative analysis from the classroom to the wider community of scholars.

To do that, we work with students to transform their research into a published article. All submissions are formally reviewed by the Editorial Board and faculty experts. We hope that students will develop their skills as scholars through the review process, as we also hope to inspire others to undertake research when they read the published articles on an array of captivating subjects.

In cases of written work, authors should follow ensure that their submission amply fulfills the following categories:

  • The abstract summarizes the article accurately.
  • The arguments are focused.
  • The introduction clearly sets forth a) the thesis statement, hypothesis and/or research question and b) the course the paper will follow to prove the thesis.
  • The literature review is appropriate in breadth and length and demonstrates the scope of the scholarship.
  • The findings are objectively presented and the analysis is done thoroughly. The structure of the paper has a methodological flow.
  • Major ideas/results/findings are recapitulated in the conclusion/discussion section.
  • The writing is well-organized, clear, and grammatically correct.
  • The writing is free from jargon and key terms are defined.
  • Citations and notes are appropriate and the quality of sources are sound. The essay uses the style appropriate to the discipline (Chicago, APA, or MLA) consistently.
