MURDER IN THE MEADOW a gripping crime mystery full of twists (DI Hillary Greene Book 7) Kindle Edition
Meet DI HILLARY GREENE, a policewoman struggling to save her career and catch criminals.
Wayne Sutton is found dead by a stream in a beautiful meadow. His head has been bashed in and a red paper heart left on his body. The handsome young artist had a reputation as a ladies’ man.
DI Hillary Greene discovers that many wealthy married women were buying his paintings and taking ‘private’ art lesson from him. It appears that several of them might have wanted him dead.
Hillary also has a new detective sergeant, Gemma Fordham. Seemingly efficient and pleasant, she harbours a secret agenda.
Can Hillary get to the bottom of a complex case involving jealousy, love, and cold-blooded murder?
This is a crime mystery full of well-observed characters, which will have you gripped from start to finish.
Perfect for fans of Agatha Christie, Colin Dexter, or Ruth Rendell.

THE LOCATION
The pretty ironstone village of Deddington has an attractive and unusual church, antique shop and hotel, and several pubs known locally for their cuisine. Although not a tourist spot as such, it is a picturesque spot. Water meadows, such as the one where the body is found, are a feature of valleys in the area, and regularly flood in the winter time, adding nutrients to the soil, and making them especially lovely in the spring and summer, when they can flower quite spectacularly.
THE DETECTIVES
DI Hillary Greene
An attractive woman in her forties, Hillary Greene is a police officer of many years’ experience, and came up through the ranks. Consequently, she knows how the system works, and is fiercely loyal to the force without being blinkered to its faults. Popular with the rank and file for her no-nonsense attitude and competence.
DCI Philip 'Mellow' Mallow

Known for his sartorial elegance and laid-back manners, he has a sharp mind, and an eye for the ladies. This was the first book that I read in this series. I am now going to start the series from the very beginning.
Martin carefully lays out the clues that lead to the murderer. Although the revelation of the murderer is a shock, the revelation follows from all that was described before.
In a good murder mystery, what seems to be extraneous turns out to be critical.
I cannot wait to see how the subplot of the new DS snooping around turn out.

And the new DS certainly is up to something. She’s a former squeeze of Greene’s deceased husband Ronnie, a bent cop who’d squirreled away millions in ill-gotten gains. And it’s those millions the new DS is after, even if she has to rifle through Greene’s purse and break into the canal boat where she lives.
And a new murder is reported. Two boys find a body in a meadow near the River Cherwell near Oxford. The victim is a young artist known for his multitude of affairs with middle-aged and older women. The red paper heart held in place by a large stone on the man’s chest suggests someone had finally gotten tired of the affairs. The medical examiner determines it was death by drowning – the victim was knocked out and held underwater.
Suspects and motives bound in “Murder in the Meadow,” the seventh DI Hillary Greene mystery novel by British author Faith Martin. Like its predecessors, it’s a standalone story, although to watch Greene develop her detective skills and manage the fallout from her crooked husband is a treat in and of itself. And to see this new detective sergeant up to what is clearly no good adds another layer of depth and interest to the story.
In addition to the DI Hillary Greene novels, Martin (a pen name for Jacquie Walton) has also published the Ryder and Loveday novels as well as the Jenny Sterling mysteries. Under the name Joyce Cato, she has published several non-series detective stories. Both Cato and Martin are also pen names for Walton. (Walton has another pen name as well – Maxine Barry, under which she wrote 14 romance novels.) A native of Oxford, she lives in a village in Oxfordshire.
