Hey Anonymous!

the project

21 for 21!

We celebrate the first year of The Land with the launch of a new project and campaign to support our community engagement and reporting activities by raising $21,000 in 2021!

The Project: Ask The Land

Your donation will go to support the expansion of the Ask The Land Program. This expansion will be completed by:

  • Launching the Ask The Land: Environmental Justice Reporting Initiative, our new, summer-long grassroots project to report on environmental issues in Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton, Collinwood, and Slavic Village neighborhoods, in collaboration with Kent State University.
  • Developing a year-long community engagement plan for the Ask The Land Program that includes a series of online events highlighting local heroes in our community and promoting ways to get involved.
  • Collaborating with other media entities such as ideastream, La Mega, and Northeast Ohio Solutions Journalism to tell vital community stories and amplify their impact.

the steps

We thank you for your interest in The Land. You are a key member of our community! Together with your support, The Land will:

1. Hire two Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) student journalists. Create and execute an outreach plan to gather critical feedback and source environmental justice story ideas directly from Cleveland neighborhood residents.

2. Collaborate with other media entities such as ideastream, La Mega, and Northeast Ohio Solutions Journalism to tell vital community stories and amplify their impact.

3. Report and publish stories about environmental justice issues in Cleveland neighborhoods, bringing awareness to social equity problems, promoting accountability, and exploring solutions.

4. This summer, develop a civic engagement plan that helps The Land grow and engage its audience in exploring problems and solutions in their communities and how they can help shape the news.

5. Beginning fall 2021, host free online events featuring reporters, storytellers, and activists from around the city to provide information and foster discussion.

We have come a long way in our first year and we are just getting started. Please join us and support this project at any level.
Your donation is tax deductible!

why we're doing it

We remain passionate about using local journalism as the medium to strengthen Cleveland’s neighborhoods and inner-ring suburbs by lifting the voices of people underrepresented in the local media.

The Land is continuously working to present an inclusive public voice about Cleveland's neighborhood and inner-ring suburbs. We are committed to developing diverse teams of skilled writers, storytelling reporters, photographers, community builders, and others drawn from the deep talent pools present throughout Northeast Ohio.

Why support this project?  Meet a few of The Land's donors!

I think the writing in The Land is excellent! I like the directness, the style, and the syntax.  --Jane R.

I love the spirit of The Land! Thanks for spreading the good vibes in the area. It’s important to remember we have much to celebrate!  --Christina H.

Thank you to The Land for striving to lift voices and reconnect us to our communities.  --Valerie H.

While I agree with Henry David Thoreau that news is "glorified gossip," I believe The Land can help us understand our city and tell the stories of courageous and thoughtful Clevelanders who choose to make our city a better place.  --Mary H.

I am proud to give to The Land because I started my journalism career in Cleveland and believe in the need for strong local news. --Ebony R.
