Join us at Malcolm X College for a screening and discussion of the new WTTW initiative FIRSTHAND: Gun Violence.

It has become a well-worn trope: a grieving parent, too distraught to find the words to describe her child’s murder. But in this new series, parents find real power in their voices, to articulate what life has been like in the months and years after the murder—or incarceration—of their children. Come for a behind-the-scenes look at this new documentary, after which producer and director Dan Protess will talk with some parents who are making strides to stop the violence.

WTTW is proud to partner with The Heartland Alliance, the coordinating agency and employer of record for READI Chicago, and Communities Partnering 4 Peace (CP4P), convened by Metropolitan Family Services.

FIRSTHAND: Gun Violence is presented, in part, by The Grainger Foundation, Allstate Insurance Company, The Chicago Community Trust, The Joseph & Bessie Feinberg Foundation, and the Marc and Jeanne Malnati Family Foundation. Major support is also provided by Ann and Rich Carr, Lew Collens, Denny and Sandy Cummings, Jim and Kay Mabie, Sonia T. Marschak, and Rande and Cary McMillan. All supporters listed are as of October 21, 2019.

Please RSVP below. There will be no physical tickets to this event. Your name and number of seats reserved will be on a door list when you arrive. * fields are required.
