Myles Mills, better known as Skizzy Mars has had himself quite journey in his 24 years of existence. From hanging in the streets of Harlem, to dropping out of college and then reaching the pinnacle of his career in 2015 only to be faced with a personal battle in June of 2016. He would eventually overcome the two year hiatus with a fresh new mindset and as the saying goes, some of the best lessons learned are not from your victories, but from your failures which the music star has had a lot of time to reflect over these past 24 months.

With all that behind him now and a new album and massive tour on the way, 2018 is not only looking very promising for Skizzy, but he’s seemingly appears to not have missed a beat during his hiatus. Today, we debut his new video single, “American Dream” that pretty much sums up his journey up until this point – a dream and journey, that eventuall became a reality. Press play to watch above and check out all the cities and dates for Skizzy’s ‘are you OK?’ tour kicking off on April 7.

Meanwhile, Skizzy Mars will be releasing his sophomore album, are you OK? later this month, stay tuned.

What was the concept behind this new video single?
“American Dream” was a song I always wanted to make, but never did for some reason. I tend to gravitate to softer, more melodic sounds but I just felt like going in. I wanted to talk my shit, but more importantly paint a picture of my story and talk about some of the stuff I experienced growing up that made me. For the video, Suj and I wanted to capture the authenticity and rawness of my hometown, Harlem. We filmed it all within like 10 blocks of where I grew up.

What are your plans for 2018?

2018 and beyond is just going to be a lot of content. A lot of music, first and foremost. I took time off and was blessed to have my fans stay supportive throughout and now it’s time to just go hard and never stop going hard. As far as features, I like to keep the features I’m getting for my stuff surprises, but I’m working on some cool stuff right now with other people. Quin XCII have one I’m excited about.

Are you still in New York and if so, what are your thoughts on the current state of hip-hop in the Big Apple?

I’m still based in NY, but I’m in LA a lot. The hip hop scene in New York is interesting. I don’t look at myself as a hip-hop artist per se so I can sort of objectively assess it. I wish we’d stick together more like Atlanta does, but there’s a lot of talented kids. I’m definitely liking Sheck Wes and Jay Critch. My homies Take A Daytrip on the production side are definitely the future.

Where do you see yourself going musically in the near future?

Up. That’s a difficult one. I’d make music even if I didn’t eat off this shit. I love it, and I love improving and pushing myself. I’ve done that with every project I’ve put out and I’ll continue to. So just better and better and better.

Final words?

I can’t wait for everyone to hear my new EP are you OK? that’s dropping this month and then eventually the new album. I really want everyone to get caught up with my story. It’s an exciting time. And my patient and loving fans, I love you. Just the beginning.
