Nursing is an essential part of the health care team, encompassing health promotion,
illness prevention and care provision to people of all ages, in various health care
and community settings. Knowledge and experience gained from a BSN program prepares
nurses to provide exceptional care in the challenging health care environment and
offers more opportunities for employment and advancement, as well as higher pay.
Why nursing at OSU?
OSU provides nursing students with an experience grounded in research, preparing tomorrow’s
nurse leaders and nurse scientists. Students develop critical thinking and clinical
judgment through classes, extensive clinical experience and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Students have a unique opportunity to focus on serving underserved and rural populations
and are prepared to infuse prevention and total wellness practices in health care
systems.
There is a critical need for nurses in Oklahoma and across the country. BSN prepared
nurses can work in acute care facilities as well as community settings such as schools, health departments or home health. BSN graduates are prepared to pursue advanced practice degrees to become nurse practitioners,
nurse anesthetists and clinical nurse leaders.
Students in this program will have hands-on experience with patients in both rural
and urban settings. Six hundred hours of clinical experience will be gained through
partnership with medical facilities such as Stillwater Medical Center, OSU Medical
Center-Tulsa and more as the program expands.
Simulation Lab
The university is renovating space on campus to create a new, fully equipped simulation
lab for the program, targeted for completion in 2024.
Career Readiness
Upon completion of the program, students will have met all program/course requirements
to sit for the NCLEX exam.
Required Secondary Admission Application
Prospective students who want to pursue a degree in nursing must complete OSU's undergraduate
admissions application and select nursing as their major.
Students will complete 59 hours of prerequisite coursework early in the degree plan,
which includes general education and science-focused courses. In the semester prior
to completing prerequisite coursework, students will submit a competitive secondary application to continue professional coursework, which includes laboratories, simulations and clinical experiences, toward a nursing
degree.
The deadline to complete the competitive secondary application for the fall 2024 semester of professional nursing coursework is January 31, 2024.
