Elena Abend

Venezuelan pianist Elena Abend has performed, recorded and toured in recitals and as a soloist throughout her native country. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Ms. Abend’s appearances include the Teatro Teresa Carreño, Teatro Bellas Artes, Aula Magna, Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, United Nations, Merkin Concert Hall, Corcoran Gallery, Chicago Cultural Center, Pabst Theater, and the Academy of Music with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Performances in Europe have taken her to London’s Wigmore Hall, The Purcell Room, Bolivar Hall, the Toulouse Conservatoire, Theatre Luxembourg, University of Glasgow and Musicales de Montsoreau in France.
 
As a chamber musician, she has performed at the Marlboro and Ravinia music festivals and collaborated with members of the Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras, the Quintet of the Americas, and the Mendelssohn, Philomusica and Fine Arts Quartets. Other chamber music collaborations include Frankly Music, Present Music, Milwaukee Musaik, Chamber Music Milwaukee,“Classical Progressions” at the Wilson Center, “Four Seasons Concert Series” in California, Chicago Rembrandt Players and recently the Latin American concert series at the Music Institute of Chicago. Ms. Abend has recorded with the Filarmonica Nacional of Venezuela, INNOVA recording, Albany Records and the Avie label. Her latest recording “Fierce Lyricism” in collaboration with flutist Caen Thomason-Redus, is now available on Spotify, Amazon and other digital music platforms. Pedagogically Ms. Abend has worked on numerous solo and chamber recording and editing projects for the Hal Leonard Corporation/ Schirmer Editions.
 
Currently she is chair of piano studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she teaches piano performance, collaborative piano and chamber music.
