Cloud Native Buildpacks is currently a CNCF Sandbox project under the App Delivery SIG. Over the last year we've grown as a project and community and we would like to be considered for incubation.

Hurray!

Two things:

  1. Do you have a member of the TOC already signed up to help with DD?
  2. We have two documents for being able to kick off with this, the template and the guidelines.
    https://github.com/cncf/toc/blob/master/process/dd-review-template.md and https://github.com/cncf/toc/blob/master/process/due-diligence-guidelines.md

Do you already have a template started?

@amye Hi, I'm not sure if your comment was directed at me or not, but I'll assume it was me.

1. Do you have a member of the TOC already signed up to help with DD?

Nope, is the process here we just talk to someone? When I was talking to @michelleN, I was under the impression that the SIG we're under does the legwork for the due diligence.

2. We have two documents for being able to kick off with this, the template and the guidelines.
   https://github.com/cncf/toc/blob/master/process/dd-review-template.md and https://github.com/cncf/toc/blob/master/process/due-diligence-guidelines.md

These docs are helpful.

Do you already have a template started?

We do not, but we can get that to you.

@hone Hi Terence,

The process is: Heroku maintainers draft a buildpack DD doc from their own perspective, and send it to SIG chairs, then the SIG will conduct review and add recommendations.

When above process is done, SIG will hand over the DD doc to TOC to decide if call fo a vote.

@resouer Sorry, here's the draft to the DD doc. Should I send this out to the mailing list or is this fine?

@hone Yes send the doc to the mailing list please. We keep transparent to the community.

@justincormack for what it may help, CNCF member GitLab is a user of Cloud Native Buildpacks https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/25954.

@justincormack lmk if you want to talk to someone at Salesforce or VMware about how we use CNBs in production. Also, Greenhouse recently presented to the CNB WG about their usage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCc79qR-T2o. You can reach out to @pclalv about that.

Sorry I'm a couple days late but I wanted to share that Google Cloud has just officially announced their Buildpacks (based on CNB project):
https://cloud.google.com/blog/products/containers-kubernetes/google-cloud-now-supports-buildpacks

Buildpacks are supported and in-use already in many products & projects:

  • Cloud Build - Natively supports Buildpacks
  • Cloud Run - Continuous deployment to Cloud Run can be configured to use Buildpacks
  • App Engine - Buildpacks are now the default mechanism for source deployments
  • Cloud Functions - Buildpacks are the default mechanism for building deployed functions
  • Cloud Code - Cloud Code IDEs can build your source code with Buildpacks
  • Skaffold - Supports live development with buildpacks
  • Cloud Shell - The pack CLI tool is now installed in Cloud Shell by default
