(WLUK) -- After a candidacy announcement Wednesday, two Republican state senators will seemingly be vying for the same Northeast Wisconsin seat.

Under Wisconsin's recently-passed new legislative maps, Republicans Rob Cowles (District 2), Eric Wimberger (District 30) and Andre Jacques (District 1) all live in District 30. That seat now appears to be more favorable for Democrats.

Jacques is running for the congressional seat vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher.

Although Cowles hasn't officially declared his intentions, he told FOX 11 last month he's planning to move from his Allouez home of about 25 years to keep representing District 2.

“I'm not happy about it at all, but I'm more interested in public service and getting things done than I am about being attached to my condo here in Allouez,” Cowles said Feb. 29.

Wimberger, who currently represents District 30, announced Wednesday that in light of the recent district remapping, he will not seek re-election in his current district and will instead run for the 2nd Senate District.

I'm excited about the opportunity to be the conservative voice for my current constituents and new constituents in Northeast Wisconsin. From the north of the district near my family's small business, to the very south where the first generation of Wimbergers immigrated to a Kaukauna farm, I have strong vested ties to the area.
I look forward to continuing my effective representation as the Legislative Audit Committee Chairman doing government oversight, and as a member of the Joint Finance Committee organizing the state budget. I’ll also have an opportunity to live closer to the family business, Sweet Memories Candy Shoppe in Lakewood, and help my mom in our 35th year open.

FOX 11 reached out to Cowles, who said he didn't wish to comment at this time.

Jamie Wall, a Democratic candidate for the 30th District, issued the following statement:

"While we might not agree on every issue, I would still like to thank Senator Wimberger for his work on behalf of Green Bay and Brown County. In the race for this newly-open seat, I'm determined to bring fresh ideas, inclusive leadership, and a dedication to serving the needs of our community. Regardless of who the Republicans nominate, I’m excited to take this message to the voters of the 30th District."
