Changemakers: A Feminist Lens in Sports Journalism

From maintaining the daily OSU sports beat for The Oregonian to contributing to the conversation on Comcast Sports Northwest, Lindsay Schnell, ’09, has spent over ten years using her unique perspective to bring a feminist lens to athletic journalism.

Today, Lindsay serves as a sports enterprise reporter at USA TODAY. Focusing on women and their impact on college and professional athletics, she has written pieces on everything from female athletes’ impact on pro sports ownership to an investigation on Title IX’s failures 50 years after it passed.

Join Lindsay for a candid conversation on how she’s navigated the male-dominated world of sports reporting and where she thinks the future of female athletics is headed.

About the speaker:

Lindsay Schnell, ’09, is a sports enterprise reporter at USA TODAY. Naturally curious from an early age, Lindsay knew she wanted to become a journalist at ten years old. Schnell attended Oregon State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. Post-graduation, she was hired by The Oregonian to cover Oregon and Oregon State Football. After four seasons, she left to become a college sports reporter for Sports Illustrated, and since 2017, Schnell has been a sports enterprise reporter at USA TODAY. A native Nebraskan and adopted Oregonian, Schnell considers herself a football fanatic and hoops addict.
