URM Mentorship Framework Mentor Sign Up
Divisions 50 (Society of Addiction Psychology), 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology), 28 (Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse), and 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race) are launching a system of mentoring for underrepresented minorities in science. The mentorship framework is intended to formalize mentorship of URM individuals so as to increase their representation in the field of psychology.
Through this framework, URM students or ECRs can reach out for mentorship broadly or for feedback on a specific project. Similar to the peer review process, we will then send out a mentoring request to academics within our mentoring database. Potential mentors receiving requests would have the opportunity to decline in the same way they may decline an invitation to review a paper. All potential mentors should be aware that, given the potential for power differentials, the rule of thumb will be that mentors signing up will not receive authorship on contributions they make through this framework unless otherwise specified.
