Permission Form - Starling Squad
The Starling Squad is an aerospace education based rite-of-passage program for middle school students.  It provides opportunities for students to learn about small uncrewed aerial systems (sUAS, aka "drones"), gliders, ultralights, and light sport aircraft.   In addition to learning about aeronautics & flying skills, students will also learn about essential life skills such as interpersonal skills, survival skills, health and wellness, & decision making.

We will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:15 - 4:15 at Takoma Park Middle School.

In addition to learning to operate drones, Starling Squad will provide all of its participating members to participate in discovery flights at flight schools near local airports (Click here to watch a video on what happens during a discovery flight).  Students will be allowed to choose (with parental approval) between the following options:

- A gyrocopter discovery flight at Gyromojo in Frederick, Maryland
- A discovery flight in a Vans RV-12 Light Sport Airplane at Chesapeake Sport Pilot in Stevensville, MD.
- A glider discovery flight at one of several glider schools in the DMV area that participate in the Soaring Society of America's FAST program.

Mr. Booker's hope is to provide each participating student with the opportunity for at least 2 discovery flights per school year.  Mr. Booker will pay for the flight and it will be up to the parent(s)/guardian(s) of the student to schedule the appointment, provide transportation, and fill out any additional required paperwork required by the flight school.

Do you provide consent for Mr. Booker to secure discovery flight opportunities for your child?
