Nairobi, Kenya: September 9, 2020 – Dr. James Mwangi, Group Managing Director and CEO of Equity Group Holdings Plc and Executive Chairman Equity Group Foundation was today honored with the prestigious 2020 Oslo Business for Peace Award which is also described as the “Nobel Prize for Business.”Honourees are chosen by a prestigious Award Committee consisting of past Nobel Prize winners in Peace and Economics. Current committee members are: Ouided Bouchamaoui (Tunisia), Leymah Gbowee (Liberia), Finn Kydland (Norway), and Eric Maskin (USA).
The Award is conferred annually to exceptional individuals who exemplify their outstanding `business worthy’ initiatives ethically by creating economic and societal value.
Nairobi, 31st August 2020…92 scholars from the Equity Leadership Program (ELP) comprising of Wings to Fly alumni beneficiaries as well as those who topped the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination in their respective sub counties have received admission to 43 global universities. The forty- three (43) institutions are across five continents in different countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Ghana, Mauritius, Rwanda and South Africa.
With this year’s admission the largest single-year cohort, the total number of scholars who have so far gained admission to global universities under the Equity Leaders Program is 633.

David Okinyi, 23, is from Migori, Kenya. He started with Equity Group Foundation’s programs at 18 years old in the `Wings to Fly’ Program with MasterCard Foundation. David graduated on 6th May 2019 with a BSc in Economics and a B.A in Business (Global Politics) and will pursue his Master’s in Finance at Arizona State University,USA.
Wayne, from Mombasa, Kenya, joined the Wings to Fly program at 16. His father passed away in 2010, leaving his family in financial difficulty. “My greatest challenge was overcoming the fear of failure.” he said. Now with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Ashesi University, he seeks to empower other Kenyan youth with Software Development skills.
