NYUlstercommunity services, food accessWill be delivering cooked meals to families daily. Purchasing food from farmers to get to community care efforts - families, children, eldersDONATE here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/feeding-local-families-and-supporting-local-farms?utm_medium=email&utm_source=product&utm_campaign=p_email%2B4803-donation-alert-v5"As many of you know, Kingston City Schools are closed for at least the next two weeks - this will have huge impacts on many of the 6,000 children in the school district who depend on their schools for nutrition and regular meals. Many parents are also going to be out of work, and struggling to make ends meet in the coming weeks and months.

At the same time, our farmers are stuck with food that they were planning to sell, and are taking a hit now that farmers markets and other retail outlets are closed.

A coalition of local organizations is raising money to purchase food from local farms which will then go to Family of Woodstock and People's Place to make bagged lunches and hot meals for folks who need access to food. We are also planning to deliver meals to folks who can't leave home. Please consider making a donation of any size to help support our local economy and community members!"

as of wednesday, 3/18 started up a weekly emergency csa at the urban farm I farm/teach at for students/families in community. also received produce donations from trader joes to supplement the greens/eggs. been using precautions/health safety based off the cdc's/ dept of ag's notices. & amassed a group of staff/teacher/community volunteers to drive/deliver the produce to folx doorsteps while also keeping necessarily distance, etc. now working on getting "official" approval from the city's food service director/health folx on our systems in place. aim to keep this up on a weekly basis as long as we can. right now we are serving csa to 35 families. applied for an emergency grant. hope to up it to 50 & also work with more farms in area for sourcing ingredients.

funding. how to generate $ so we can pay farmers in area for more produce while also taking advantage of the local nutrious offerings for the folx who need it the most. & also how to keep up with wellness practices during these times. for students & organizers hustling in a fully digital space. so thankful to have farming rn. also! how to create community in the age of physical distancing esp with those that are the most vulunerable & with least amt of resources. some of the community alders i've spoken to in some of the most isolated areas of the city say how nervous folx are in even opening the door & responding to neighbors checking up on them

A group of Skidmore students have created a covid-19 landing page with links to three maps: one for local farms, one for school food, and the other for restaurant access. The goal is to provide a helpful resource for both farmers and consumers who are in need of help connecting to each other at this time.
We are now looking for helping getting the word out about these maps to farmers and restaurants so they can start listing their businesses, and to consumers so they can begin using this resource. It is open source and editable, so its usefulness will grow as people contribute to it. Please forward to your networks and be in touch if you have any comments, suggestions, or questions.

As opposed to platforms such as Localline and Harvey, etc this setup is free to use (except for whatever website fees your online store incurs... in our case it's squarespace fees), and also that it's not branded, so make it your own!

community fund and local food distribution effort to support residents impacted by COVID-19. Meal assistance and day care for essential workers. The County secured over $2 million in funding in 24 hours, and is utilizing UCAT as well as partnering with municipalities and non-profits to deliver meals via local distribution centers. This new initiative helps residents in need and simultaneously provide support to small businesses. Ulster County is partnering with United Way and many other area organizations and businesses to mobilize food and services.

We currently donate 11 big CSA shares to partner organizations for their food distribution and nutrition programming each year.
As of 5/8, we have 8 big shares or 16 small shares available for purchase on a sliding scale (up to 50% subsidized) for those who cannot afford to pay at full price. Shares are available for pickup on farm, but we may be able to deliver to some applicants in New Paltz or Kingston if unable to commute to the farm. Apply for a sliding scale share here: https://form.jotform.com/8348392355516313
If you/your organization are in the New Paltz/Kingston area and are looking to collaborate with food producers, please contact me directly (communications will be shared with our food justice committee)! We welcome new partnerships that help fortify our local food economy and alleviate hunger/malnutrition.

COVID-19 Emergency Food Service Program
Black Farmers Program
Florence Fang Community Farm
Our COVID-19 Emergency Food Service Program helps feed hard-to-reach low income youth, seniors and their families in Bayview-Hunters Point, a historically underserved neighborhood in San Francisco. We work on crop production of fresh local produce to feed more neighborhood families who are in extra need due to COVID-19 sheltering requirements and food shortages. See our program description below:

• Coordinate services with SFM Food Bank so there is no overlap in households receiving food service. We have identified 75-80 families who still need food service delivered to them, with average household size of 5.6 persons and total of 448 hard to reach residents.
• Maintain contact with, youth, seniors and their families regarding their needs for food
• Schedule and coordinate volunteers to tend to and harvest existing farm plots of 20-30 vulnerable farmers who are unable to come outdoors.
• Activate additional farm land, coordinate volunteers to grow and harvest crops on this additional farming area.
• Plan growing schedule and acquire seeds for fast growing crops such as Bok Choy, Summer Squash, baby carrots
• Recruit and coordinate volunteers to deliver the crops that become ready to harvest on a weekly basis.
• Coordinate partnerships with food suppliers (SFM Food Bank and SF Produce Market) to get more food to distribute, and coordinate with local community partners (CYC and Faces-SF) to get additional volunteers
• Make sure all activities are conducted following COVID-19 health safety guidelines.
With this project we hope to accomplish:
• Providing weekly delivery of fresh produce and food staples for up to 75 residents who are vulnerable persons to COVID-19 and/or low income.
• Grow, harvest and distribute 1500 pounds of additional fresh produce for local families in need of healthy foods
