School of Public Health's Global Health Speaker Series: Towards Universal Health Coverage: Journey, Challenges, & Long Term Vision
Please join the UIC School of Public Health Global Health Program for the School of Public Health's Global Health Speaker Series.  This month, our speaker will be Sonia Riaz, MD, MPH, Technical Deputy Director in the Federal Ministry of National Health in Pakistan and a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The topic of Dr. Riaz's talk will be Towards Universal Health Coverage: Journey, Challenges & Long Term Vision. The event will be held in SPHPI Room 121, in-person capacity is limited. First come, first serve. All are welcome to attend.

Dr. Riaz obtained her medical degree in Pakistan in 2010 and a post graduate certificate in Human Resource Health and Management from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, UK in 2015. She then received two years of advanced training in Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, and the Pakistan Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program. In 2018, Dr. Riaz assumed the role of Deputy Director Technical for the Federal Ministry of National Health in Pakistan. In recent years, she has been actively involved in the flagship and landmark Social Health Protection Initiative with an objective to lead Universal Health Coverage in Pakistan. She was awarded an appreciation shield for her accomplishments in this area from the Prime Minister of Pakistan. She has collaborated with the World Health Organization, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and the World Bank for capacity building and technical development. Currently, Dr. Riaz is at Virginia Commonwealth University as a Fellow in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, a Fulbright exchange activity, in the area of Public Health Policy and Management.
