The University of Kentucky English Graduate Student Organization (EGSO) proudly invites abstracts and proposals for its annual spring Symposium, which will take place on February 28-29, 2020. Specifically, we invite reflection on how our critical, creative, and pedagogical work navigates, challenges, and complicates the tension between noise and silence.
We welcome graduate projects that take creative, interdisciplinary, and experimental approaches and forms. Submissions may explore aspects of this theme as manifested across disciplines and in any medium, historical and cultural context, and geographical location. Papers may draw on but are not limited to critical theory, cultural studies, disability studies, feminist theory, film and visual studies, media and communication studies, postcolonial studies, psychoanalysis, and queer theory.

Paper (research paper or creative work)

Poster (visual representation of pedagogical or research-oriented work; presenters will be available during the poster session to discuss the projects with attendees. Presenters may bring their laptops to display their projects, if electronic, or bring posters for display).

Panel (75 min total; 3-4 participants, reading/delivering a formal paper or creative work of 15-20 min; visual aids are welcomed but not required)

Roundtable (75 min total; 3-6 participants give brief, informal presentations on pedagogical or research-oriented topics; then the session is open to conversation and debate between participants and the audience

Abstract Submission Directions

- 250 words max for Poster or Paper Submission
- 350 words max for Roundtable Submission (include the names of fellow participants and description of the session)
- 500-700 words max for Panel Submission (include the names of fellow panelists, their paper titles, and brief abstracts)
