The Seneca Ridge Garden Club's mission is to collaboratively create a sustainable garden for students to learn in and enjoy together with staff and families in the Seneca Ridge community.
WHY GROW A GARDEN?
We are currently building and maintaining raised garden beds that intersect and support the LCPS middle school curriculum. We believe the learning experience can be enhanced through observation and gardening, specifically in the areas ecology, biology, agriculture, the natural sciences.
The experience and inspiration that working in the garden brings can also be applied to art, literature and the humanities.
The benefits of gardening also include the mental and physical/health well-being of our children, staff and families as we will be actively outdoors, breathing fresh air and growing organic food.
"Children today spend less time outdoors than any other generation, devoting only (4) four to (7) seven minutes to unstructured outdoor play per day while spending an average of (7) seven and a half hours in front of electronic media."
