HCSA Elections for 2023-24 school year
The Honors College Student Association (HCSA) is seeking students to run this winter for leadership positions for the 2023/2024 academic year!

HCSA is a student-run led organization whose purpose is to foster a strong sense of community between Honors College students, to give back to the local community, to provide for the social development of students, to represent the students of the Honors College to the entire campus, and to promote their general welfare within the framework of OSU.

Elections will be held during the HCSA meeting on Thursday, March 2nd from 6-7 pm in LInC 307. You will be asked to introduce yourself and give a brief speech about why you are interested in running. Deadline to apply is Monday, February 27th.

Elections will be held for the following positions:

HCSA President-  The President serves as the main facilitator of meetings and is expected to work alongside the HCSA advisor when setting up meeting agendas. The President is the vocal leader of the meetings and the deciding vote in any motion which results in a tie. They ensure that the organization abides by the constitution and all regulations put forth by Oregon State University. The President also serves as the main connection between members of the HCSA and the staff and faculty of the Honors College and is a delegate to the Honors College Student Leadership Circle.  The President is the primary external student voice of the Honors College and will create a guiding vision for the HCSA and the Honors College itself.

HCSA Vice President-  The Vice President is expected to assist the President as necessary in any way they can. Consistent communication between President and Vice President is encouraged. They will ensure that all officers are appropriately completing the tasks assigned to them, and shall be in charge of organizing communication among the officers. The Vice President will stand-in for the President as chair of meetings in the case of the President’s absence, and will oversee the HCSA activities in the President’s absence.
The Vice President is responsible for organizing the Dean’s Annual State of the Honors College Address during the Fall term. The Vice President shall be the Chair of the Constitutional Review Committee.

Administrative Chair-  The Administrative Chair is responsible for the organization and documentation of the HCSA. This includes recording meeting minutes and making them available to all Honors College students. They must take attendance of officers and members at all events. The officers and the number of non-officer members in attendance at meetings shall be reported in the minutes. This individual is also responsible for counting votes, should a vote occur during a meeting, and noting the decision made. This individual is also responsible for managing the listserv, and submitting all the HCSA related announcements to the Monday Message. The Administrative Chair must develop and maintain a method for the online storage of the HCSA Files, as well as submit updates to the Honors College Google Calendar weekly and shall upload all notable documentation to the shared online folder.

Treasurer- The Treasurer will track finances within the HCSA accounts, and manage the annual budget, as well as maintain for presentation a current budget, to be used when needed during meetings. The Treasurer shall have access to the HCSA RSO Fund account. They are expected to coordinate all supplies and snacks for the HCSA meetings, handle the distribution of funds to HCSA members for spending as well as organizing reimbursements. The Treasurer collects and submits all receipts for reimbursement, organizes cash box funds for applicable fundraisers (e.g. bake sale), and maintains an inventory list of all HCSA supplies.

Academic Activities Chair- The Academic Activities Chair serves as the main contact to plan and implement events focused on academic outcomes. This may include events such as the study breaks hosted each term, or an equivalent, recurring event. This would also include any intentional events related to stress management, life balance, and academic discussions. This individual also gathers nominations for the Outstanding Honors College Professor and Course of the Year and presents them to nominees during the end of the year celebrations (such as Spring Gala).

Professional Development Activities Chair - The Professional Development Activities Chair must plan and implement networking and career-building events. They must also work to build connections between Honors College students, alumni, and people and organizations outside of OSU. The Professional Development Activities Chair will assist the Honors College Director of Student Success and Engagement with events, as needed, and will partner with the Honors College Director of External Relations & Operations, as needed.

Service Activities Chairs - The two Service Activities Chairs serve as the main contacts to plan and implement events focused on service to the community. They will serve as the main coordinators of the Honors College portion of the Oregon State University Food Drive. Other events they organize may include Relay for Life, Beavs Helping Kids, and beach clean-ups. These individuals are responsible for presenting volunteer opportunities to the HCSA and leading recruitment efforts for fundraising and volunteers. Additionally, they are responsible for arranging student transportation to and from campus for off-campus events and printing and providing liability waivers if necessary. The suggested number of service events planned per term is one per Service Chair for fall and spring term. The sole responsibility of the Service Chairs during the winter term is the annual Food Drive.

Social Activities Chair-  The Social Activities Chair serves as the main contact to plan and implement events focused on social outcomes. This will include events such as Fall Family Weekend, Spring Family Weekend, and the Spring Picnic. This person is expected to work closely with the Honors College Trip Coordinators as well as the Outreach Chairs to know what events are going on and to publicize them.

Social Justice Chair - The Social Justice Chair role consists of event and activity planning around the education of diversity, equity, inclusivity, and other social justice matters. This chair will create connections with other departments on campus or organizations off campus that can offer the Honors College students to engage in social justice learning.

Wellness Chair - The Wellness Chair role consists of event and activity planning that focuses on the promotion of the health and wellbeing of our students. This might look like events around stress management, self-care, mental health, etc. The Wellness Chair helps the president in running the 'Forgot Your Lunch' program

Public Relations Chairs - This position is to be held by two people with the purpose of creating advertising and social outreach in print while also communicating with the organizer of the Honors College social media channels to keep the Honors College social media channels updated on HCSA activities. 

Food Cabinet Coordinator - The Food Cabinet Coordinator is in charge of ordering, stocking, advertising, keeping inventory of, and maintaining general organization of the Honors College Student lounge (the SLUG). In collaboration with the Wellness Chair, they will manage the food orders with the Advisor, create a timeline for distributing the food evenly throughout the term, and restock the Cabinet as needed.


Other Potential Positions- Specific chairs can be created if they are seen as necessary by the assembled body. The creation or addition of a chair can be temporary or permanent, the chairperson can either be appointed by consensus or elected by a special election, as needed. The creation of a permanent chairperson requires a constitutional amendment as outlined in Article VI.
