Password Reset Steps

  1. Navigate to SPM.mcpsmd.org and log in with the student’s student ID and current password.

*The current password is the one used to access StudentVUE or log into MCPS desktops. The student’s Google password used to log into Chromebooks may be different than the password needed here, if the student chose to change it at any point.

*If the student does not remember their current password, school staff can provide it using the Student Password Report provided to them in the MCPS Resources bookmarks folder.

  1. Follow the steps on the screen
  1. Note the password requirements; these vary by grade levels
  2. Enter a new password that meets the requirements
  3. Confirm the password by retyping it
  4. Once the red icons change to green checks, click Change Password

  1. Note the Success message that appears at the top of the screen. Make sure you remember the new password!

  1. Refer to the student’s @mcpsmd.net mailbox (accessed using the new password) for a confirmation email

What does this password allow students to access?

Students will use this password to access any MCPS applications that take their student ID as the username. **Note, some applications require studentID@mcpsmd.net while others, just studentID

Can the student change their password for just their @mcpsmd.net Google account?

Yes, students do have the ability to do this, but it is not recommended. It is recommended that students utilize the Student Password Manager application to reset their password as that keeps their password consistent across MCPS applications that take their student ID as the username.

What is the best next step if a student forgets their MCPS password?

School based staff members have access to look up student passwords. Certain job roles including teachers and ITSSs have access to reset them for the student.
