Intro Computer Science | Students will implement a program that accepts input values, stores them in named variables and produces expected outputs using Scratch. Next, they will learn to build functions with parameters to organize code in Scratch and Python, making it easier to reuse. Finally, students will learn to Pseudocode their projects prior to coding by deconstructing Capstone project #1 to use as an example. |
Computer Science Foundations | Currently, students are wrapping up their study of Python by completing the final Capstone Project to create a game called, ‘Catch the Falling Perfect Squares’. Upon return from Spring Break students will embark on the next phase of their coding journey by vering on to the JavaScript pathway. They will learn the basics of this computer programming language starting with Arithmetic Operators, Remainder/Modulo Operators, and variables expressing both Numbers (Integers and Decimals), and Strings (Text) values. Additionally CSF classes will delve into the world of Digital Data, exploring various forms of collection, expression and manipulation in their online world. |

Spectrum | 8th graders have completed the brainstorming for their team’s Lunar Future City through the development of a Google Site. Now it’s time to make the city come to life! Students chose a part of their city to design via a blueprint, computer model, or 3-D model. Topics chosen include: housing, transportation, food production, healthcare, government, entertainment, etc. They have planned out some basic information on how their topic uses moon resources, innovative technologies, protects against moon hazards, and includes unique features. They will begin the process of designing their visuals this week. I can’t wait to see the results! Students should be checking their end of week “weekly updates” in Schoology to help them stay on top of things:) |
