CORE CLASSES

Language Arts

  • Students are applying their mastery of plot, conflict, and theme to develop and write their own picture books. We are so impressed with the creativity we’re seeing! After conferences, the summative copy of their picture book will be due October 8th (A) and 12th (B).
  • Students will have a conflict summative on October 4th (A) or 5th (B).
  • As always, we ask students to read for 20 minutes a day and always have a book they’re working through reading independently.

Math

Foundations of Algebra

  • The Summative Assessment for Unit 2 is scheduled for Thursday 9/30 (A day) and Friday 10/1 (B day).
  • As a reminder, students are expected to learn 5 topics in ALEKS each week (Monday morning through Sunday evening).  Students should have a minimum of 10 ALEKS topics completed at this point in the quarter to stay on track to complete 30 by October 28th.
  • Students will participate in the Math Growth Assessment on October 7th.
  • Please check your Schoology page frequently for updated assignment sheet and calendar updates.
  • Unit 3: Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers is next and tentative assessment dates are Wednesday, 10/13(A Day) and Thursday 10/14 (B Day).

Pre Algebra

  • Pre-Algebra classes will begin Unit 3 on Monday, October 4th. This unit will cover Evaluating and Simplifying Expressions and Solving Multi-Step Equations.
  • The Summative Assessment for Unit 3 is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 10/19 (A day) and Wednesday, 10/20 (B day).
  • As a reminder, students are expected to learn 5 topics in ALEKS each week (Monday morning through Sunday evening).
  • Please check your Schoology page frequently for updated assignment sheet and calendar updates.

Algebra

  • Algebra classes will begin unit 3 Monday, October 4. This unit has two parts, the first part we will cover solving multi-step equations and equations with variables on both sides. The second part we will learn about literal equations.
  • The Summative Assessment for Unit 3 part one  is tentatively scheduled for Friday 10/15 ( A day) and Monday 10/18 (B day).
  • As a reminder, students are expected to learn 5 topics in ALEKS each week (Monday morning through Sunday evening).
  • Reminder: Reference Schoology for updated notes and assignments.

Geometry

  • Unit 3 will focus on angles formed when parallel lines are cut by a transversal.
  • Unit 3 Summative is tentatively scheduled for Friday 10/15 (A day) or Monday 10/18 (B day).
  • As a reminder, students are expected to learn 5 topics in ALEKS each week (Monday morning through Sunday evening).

Science

  • Students have completed their Scientific Investigation unit with their Earthworm Lab summative. Grades can be checked in ParentVue.
  • The Characteristics of Living Things Summative will be completed 9/30-10/5 depending on the specific teacher. A study guide is posted on Schoology.
  • Our next unit is our Cells Unit and will start with the use of microscopes.

Social Sciences

  • This week we are completing our first summative- the Reconstruction PBAs
  • Next week we will begin learning about Westward Expansion, specifically how Americans adapted to a vastly different landscape and the impact that they had along the way.
  • Students should keep up with assigned portions of our Westward Expansion Study Guides starting next week
  • Summative - Homestead Act and Transcontinental Railroad Quiz (tentatively) 10/8 (A-Day) and 10/12 (B-Day).
  • We will have our last summative on Native Americans before the end of the quarter. Date TBD

WORLD LANGUAGES

French 1

Bonjour Chers Parents,

 

We are working on Gender and Number of Nouns, Definite and Indefinite, and Numbers 1-30

 

We will have 2 Minor Summative Tests

 

o   Gender and Numbers of Nouns, Definite and Indefinite

o   Numbers 1-30

 

·       We are constantly reviewing what we learned previously in class, using different platforms and on a daily basis we do speaking activities to work on sounds and pronunciation.

 

·       Soon, we will start Unit 1B: “En Classe” (vocabulary related to objects in the classroom and identifying people).

 

We will have a Major Summative Test “En Classe”, two weeks after starting this unit.

·       In order to maintain a comfort level and an opportunity to build up, students should be reviewing the vocabulary list and activities done in class.

·       All material, vocabulary list, and study guides are available in Schoology

 

·       Encourage your child to check their StudentVue for missing assignments.

 

o   Grades for their Summative Assignments can be found in StudentVue/ParentVue

 

o   If a student scores below 80%, they are eligible for a retake. The retake request form can be found in Schoology in the Red “Important Information Center” folder.  The student can also reach out to me.

French 2

Bonjour Chers Parents,

 

·        We are working on Unit 5 A: “Le Temps Libre” (vocabulary related to sports and leisure activities and adverbs of frequency)

 

·        We will have a Major Summative this coming week, Oct. 04 (A day) and Oct. 05 (B day).

 

·        I introduced their project #1: “Au Café”. They will have over 6 weeks to complete and submit it.    Please make sure they don’t wait for the last minute. It is due on Oct. 9, 2021.

 

.    Soon, we will start a new irregular verb: Faire (to do/to make)

 

.    We will have a Minor Summative on Faire.

German 1

  • Next week we will begin discussing and describing the weather. This will culminate in a major summative on Oct. 11

  • Remember that daily practice is the key to long-term success. Students should be practicing German for at least 10 minutes everyday.

German 2

  • We have been working on our first unit of new material for German 2 following our German 1 review unit. Students have been discussing clothes and giving their opinions about clothing.

  • We will have a Major Summative on our clothing unit next week on Thursday Oct. 7

  • Remember that daily practice is the key to long-term success. Students should be practicing German for at least 10 minutes everyday.

Latin 1

Spanish 1

  • We have just completed the preliminary unit with our first two summatives ( see parentvue please)and will start a new unit on describing likes and dislikes and taking our first look at infinitives and how to use them as such. The homework schedule is posted in Schoology for the quarter with upcoming summatives in two weeks. Learning the 6 words or sentences each school night is necessary for success. Participating in class in Spanish for the quarter will also count as a major summative. Please check Schoology for notes and updates.
