CORE CLASSES

Language Arts

  • Students are studying a poetry unit. This not only includes figurative language (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, etc.), but it also includes reading, analyzing, and writing many different types of poems (haiku, ballad, rhyming, etc.).

  • Students have the option to participate in the 30 in 30 reading challenge to build stamina and a good habit of reading. In this challenge, students will read for 30 minutes in 30 days. All students received a calendar on March 8th that will be handed in for a reward after 30 days.

Math

Math 6

  • The Unit 12 Test is scheduled for 3/30 (A Day) or 3/31 (B Day). The Unit 12 Study Guide is due on the day of the test.
  • Students must complete 5 topics in ALEKS per week.
  • Reminder: Use Schoology to see updated notes and homework assignments.

Foundations of Algebra

  • The Unit 10 PBA Presentations are scheduled for 3/24 (A Day) or 3/25 (B Day). The Unit 10 Study Guide is due on the day of presentations.
  • Students must complete 5 topics in ALEKS per week.
  • Reminder: Use Schoology to see updated notes and homework assignments.

Science

  • Students will be taking their heat transfer assessment on Tuesday, 3/22, or Wednesday, 3/23. Students should be able to explain heat transfers in 3 ways, identify how heat is transferred in given examples, and should be able to apply the concept of heat transfer to how the atmosphere is heated. Students will also be asked to connect  how weather systems form because of the unequal heating of earth’s surface.
  • Beginning next week we will be introducing Earth’s energy budget and how this affects climates on earth. Students will also begin learning how to measure atmospheric conditions.
  • Students should be checking Schoology for updated information, notes, and resources.

Social Sciences

  • We are wrapping up our unit on the Revolutionary War, focussing on the key people, events, and battles.
  • The summative assessment for the Revolutionary War involves creating a Canva Infographic and is being given on March 18th (A day) and 21st (B day).
  • Our next unit, New Nation, begins March 24. The summative assessment for this unit will be given on April 7th (A day) and 8th (B day). This will be the final assessment of Quarter 3.

ENCORE CLASSES

Art

Art 6/Shirk- Students are working in class to  transform shapes into forms using applied value in both Asymmetrical and Symmetrical compositions.

In their sketchbooks they are continuing their Elements of Art investigation through the exploration of Value, Texture, and Space.

Williams- Clay is our next project in 6th grade, we are working on the oil pastel forms drawing which will be put aside for a week and a half to do our clay project before Spring break. This is done so that while the clay is drying and firing students will have another Summative to work on.  The clay project will be a structure of their choice or a clay house both using the slab construction method.  They will have an experience using the large slab roller that we are lucky to have at TMS.  Look for their oil pastel forms drawing progress check on the Summative #5 slide for Q3, after Monday 3/20- they are amazing!! Q3 Experimental Studio Days will be the week before Spring Break.  All portfolio items must be updated to participate- updates will be done in class.

Chorus

  • We are working on Rhythmic and Melodic Sight Reading with Rests.
  • We are finishing and polishing “Whisper!” and will begin learning “J’entends le Moulin”

Orchestra

  • Summative #4 “¾ time,” will occur on March 23rd. Students should be prepared to perform “French Folk Song” with our added slurs, in addition to providing rhythm counts and bar lines for given rhythm examples
  • We will soon begin working on Spring Concert Music
  • Please continue to ensure that your student is practicing every day, for 15 minutes

Health/PE

  • Students are completing workout routines in the Aux gym. Students have begun basketball skills in the main gym. In Health, students have finished the Bones unit and are beginning Nutrition.
