CORE CLASSES

Language Arts

  • Classes are rotating through units. Several classes are working on the Caldecott Project. They are applying the criteria that librarians use to choose the Caldecott Medal winner. Students will then write a paragraph choosing one of the books using evidence based on the criteria.

  • Other classes are working on a Nonfiction Research Writing Unit. They are taking notes, writing about their research, and creating a visual aid in a presentation.

  • English classes visit the library regularly for book checkout. Students should be reading 20 minutes a day outside of class (at least 5-6 days each week).

Science

  • Students recently completed their atmosphere unit. We are now transitioning into how heat transfers to and from Earth, which will be leading us to our weather unit.
  • The heat transfer unit includes the concepts of conduction, convection, and radiation, with a focus on how these transfers of heat energy cause the movement of currents in the atmosphere and oceans.
  • Students will be participating in the Convection Lab during this unit to reinforce concepts. Please ensure that you have reviewed lab safety contracts with your child.
  • The tentative date for the next science assessment is the week of March 14-18. Continue to monitor updates on your child’s Schoology page.

Social Sciences

  • We have just completed our Road to Revolution unit with a historiographic skills-based Patriots vs. Loyalists performance assessment. We are now beginning our unit on the Revolutionary War, focussing on the key people, events, and battles.
  • The summative assessment for the Revolutionary War unit will take place on March 18 (A day) and 21 (B day).
