3/21 - 7th Updates (by CLT)

CORE CLASSES
Language Arts	Students are working hard on building their learning about WWII in history and English class - they are beginning to read chapter 6 of 9 in We Will Not Be Silent. Their second Socratic Seminar is on the 22nd (A) or 23rd (B) - their first was amazing, such deep conversation and thinking! Students are also working on really using their vocabulary and sentence structure to ensure they are reaching their audience and purpose. As always students should try to read 20 minutes at least 5 days a week.
Math	Foundations of Algebra This week we will begin Unit 10: Histograms/Graphing, this is a quick unit, our Summative will take place on Tuesday, March 22nd(A Day) and Wednesday, March 23rd(B Day). Students should be accessing the Assignment Sheet/Schoology frequently for updates, copies of completed notes and additional resources to support learning. ALEKS topics for the 3rd quarter have started, be sure students are completing a minimum of 5 topics a week. All topics for the 3rd quarter will need to be completed on or before Friday, April 8th.
	Pre Algebra We are currently working through Unit 11: Perimeter and Area of Composite Figures. Our Summative will take place on Tuesday, March 22nd (A Day) and Wednesday, March 23rd (B Day). Students should be accessing the Assignment Sheet/Schoology frequently for updates, copies of completed notes and additional resources to support learning. ALEKS topics for the 3rd quarter have started, be sure students are completing a minimum of 5 topics a week. All topics for the 3rd quarter will need to be completed on or before Friday, April 8th.
	Algebra We are currently working in Unit 11, Laws of Exponents. Students need to check their student assignments in Schoology to verify dates for the Unit 11 Summative and Spiral Mini-Quizzes. Students should be accessing the Assignment Sheet/Schoology frequently for updates, copies of completed notes and additional resources to support learning. Reminder to complete at least 5 ALEKS topics each week.
	Geometry Geometry students are wrapping up Unit 11 on Quadrilaterals. Unit 12 will focus on Polygons. This is the last summative of the 3rd quarter; it is tentatively scheduled for 03/30/22 (A day) or 03/31/22 (B day). Remember to check your Unit Schedule in Schoology for dates, notes, answer keys, videos, and much more! Students should be completing at least 5 topics in ALEKS each week.
Science	Students will be taking their Classification Summative on Tuesday, 3/22 (A-Day) or Wednesday, 3/23 (B-Day). The study guide can be found on Schoology Our next unit will focus on Natural Selection, Adaptations, and Evolution We are in the middle of March Mammal Madness in class which will end at the beginning of April. Ask your child about the exciting competition!
Social Sciences	We recently finished learning about the Great Depression This week students have begun learning about the Holocaust and have alread started making connections to the books they have read in English We look forward to taking a deep look at the Holocaust through next week and will finish the unit with a Socratic seminar on March 28 (A) and 29 (B). This will count as a summative assessment and students are expected to complete their seminar prep sheet during class next week.
WORLD LANGUAGES
French 1	Right now students are learning a new Unit 3 B, Comment sont-ils? Vocabulary related to professions, occupations and character traits. We will have a Major Summative Unit 3B I introduced Project # 3: La famille, the directions are posted on Schoology. It will be due on March 25, 2022. Merci for your trust and support!
German 1	Students have been discussing and sharing their hobbies and interests. Next week and beyond we'll be discussing the importance of some of these hobbies in German culture. Our next Major Summative, a Show and Tell Presentation, will be on Tuesday Feb. 22. Students will need to present about their hobbies without reading off of notes. Latin 1	CURRENT CHAPTER: Stage 7 Perfect verbs with x, ē, s, and u tense indicators. Implied subjects Since the start of the quarter, we have… Wrapped up Stage 6, which introduced the imperfect and perfect tenses. Been introduced to the Stage 7 vocabulary. Verb forms on our vocabulary lists now include present and perfect forms. Started reading our Stage 7 stories. Spanish 1	Students have just completed the unit on the theme of school and the classroom. We are starting a new unit on food: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please check the homework schedule with your child for assignments and upcoming summatives. Extra credit has been uploaded in Schoology. Due date is March 18th. 3/16: We are wrapping up the unit on Dinner. Students are practicing for their upcoming essay and speaking minor summatives.
