COVID-19 LA Mutual Aid Community Network

COVID-19 LA Mutual Aid Community Network, (bit.ly/whatismutualaid) is comprised of different grassroots organizations, movements and organizers, who are committed to organizing mutual material support in the community. They are immediately providing grocery and supply deliveries, and are preparing to expand this to other community support services like running errands, dog walking, childcare, caregiving, first line medical training and response, and mental health support for those impacted by the pandemic.

Drive-thru testing is expanding county-wide.  Testing will still be limited to the most vulnerable of LA County residents - those who are 65 and older and/or have underlying health conditions.  Testing is by appointment only. AGAINST LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

 

 

Los Angeles, Calif. (April 20, 2020)– The Indigenous Education Now Coalition (IEN), comprised of Tribes, Native organizations and students, parents, and community members, filed a formal complaint with the United States Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, against the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) on April 17, for failure to comply with federal law requiring tribal consultation with tribes and tribal organizations.

“The Coalition calls upon the U.S. Department of Education to ensure that the LAUSD properly consults with local Indian tribes and organizations, and respond to the COVID-19 crisis exacerbating historic neglect of Native students,” said Chrissie Castro, Co-Founder and Senior Adviser of the California Native Vote Project (CNVP).

LA Young Creative Fund

Program Description and Eligibility:This financial assistance package is intended to provide emergency cash relief and to help young creatives safeguard their creditworthiness during this challenging period.

Individuals who meet the following criteria may be eligible to receive a $1,000 financial assistance package, including: a $500 zero interest (0%) loan over 24 months (with no repayment for the first six (6) months) and a $500 grant that does not need to be repaid:

The LA Young Creatives Fund is open to Los Angeles County residents who:

  • Are 18-30 years old,
  • Have earned income from work in the creative economy in the last three months (i.e. income from cultural, artistic, and design-related goods and services),
  • Make less than $58,450 per year, and
  • Have experienced significant COVID-19-related financial hardship.  

Artist + Activist Relief Fund

This fund, created by The Soze Foundation And TaskForce, will support artists and activists whose work has been impacted by COVID-19. We will be making $250 grants to selected applicants on an on-going basis. We currently have $30,000 total for this first round of grants.
