Greetings School Certifying Officials,  

Are you getting questions from your GI Bill® students pertaining to their education benefits during the COVID-19 emergency? The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) created the COVID-19 Communications Toolkit with pre-written materials for you to utilize in your correspondence with students to answer their questions. 

As you know, on January 5, 2021, the President signed the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (P.L.116-315) into law. This new law provides protections to education benefits for GI Bill students who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.  

The COVID-19 Communications Toolkit provides you with pre-written materials including: 

• A COVID-19 One-Pager with FAQs and scenario-based examples
• Email and newsletter language
• Social posts with corresponding COVID-19 graphics
• A list of helpful resources

We encourage you to use these prepared materials to help answer GI Bill students’ questions. These materials provide additional clarity regarding COVID-19 updates and the support available for GI Bill students.  We look forward to providing you additional SCO-specific information on these COVID-19 provisions in the coming weeks.
